Julia was born in California’s capitol under the popstrological sign of ‘Shaft’, in the year Carole King released ‘Tapestry’.
Raised on Alaska’s Kodiak Island, Julia found her voice the day she fell into the river.
While chasing ancestors with her Grandmother on a car tour of Ireland, she discovered the delicious habit of creating her own rhymes.
Coming of age as a theater artist and vocalist in Seattle, Washington, Julia starred as Russian revolutionary Vera Zasulich in Chris Jeffries’ world premiere musical, ‘Vera Wilde’, and toured the nation as environmental activist Rachel Carson in Robin Holcomb’s ‘O Say a Sunset’. Next she penned a novel, learned guitar and released her debut record of 11 original songs, ‘Five Challenges to Flight’, produced by Mell Dettmer and featuring Eyvind Kang, Jason Merculief, Don McGreevy, Milky Burgess, Bill Patton, Steve Moore, Hans Teuber and Trey Spruance.
On April 18th, 2008, Julia released ‘Lucky Penny,’ made in Milwaukee, WI, with co-producers Victor DeLorenzo (founding drummer of the Violent Femmes) and Mike Hoffmann (EIEIO). The record features world-class musicians Vinnie Colaiuta (considered one of the most important drummers of our time, Vinnie has played with Frank Zappa, Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan, Barbra Streisand, and Sting); drummer Ben Smith (Heart, Taj Mahal, Cyndi Lauper); bassist Andy Stoller (Tracy Chapman); and Jeff Fielder (Sera Cahoone), as well as additional production and engineering by Ted Stockwell and Billy Sherwood.
Currently based in her home state of California, she is attempting to live by the words of Sonoma Valley neighbor Jack London:
